Celebrate Mardi Gras in Snowmass

Mardi Gras In Snowmass, Colorado | Mountain Chevrolet

For 36 years, Snowmass has been the go-to place to celebrate Mardi Gras in Colorado. The village is always decked out with decorations and merriments for the occasion. There is a schedule of events, as well, that takes the celebration from sunrise to long after sunset.

Uphill Race

First thing in the morning, Mardi Gras in Snowmass kicks off with the annual Mother Of All Ascensions uphill race. The race is a 2,072-foot climb from the bottom of Fanny Hill to Gwyn’s High Alpine Restaurant. Costumes are both allowed and encouraged. At the end of the race, there will be awards for best and worst times as well as best costume.

Bead Toss

No Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without a traditional bead toss. In Snowmass, the bead toss takes place at 3 p.m., so make sure you’re ready with necklaces in hand.

Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert

Mardi Gras in Snowmass brings in quite the crowd, including talented musicians. The Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert begins at 3 p.m. on Fat Tuesday, right after the bead toss, with Turkuaz performing at 4 p.m. The concert is free of charge, so grab some beads and a boa, find yourself a delicious southern-style meal, and make your way to the stage.

At Mountain Chevrolet, we are excited to be part of such a fun celebration. Visit our showroom to learn more about all of the winter-ready vehicles out on the lot.

Vehicle Service to Start the New Year Right

New Year Vehicle Service

It’s a new year, which is often a time for us to resolve to be better people and make changes in our lives. You should also resolve to take better care of your vehicle, starting with vehicle service right off the bat. Here are some of the things you can do to get your vehicle started off on the right foot—or rather, tire—this year.

  • Get your oil changed: Bring your vehicle in for its routine oil change at Mountain Chevrolet. We can also rotate your tires to ensure even wear.
  • Wash your car: Road salt from wintry weather can damage your vehicle over time. Regularly wash your vehicle throughout the year, but start with one right now.
  • Change your air filter: Get some fresh air in the new year by replacing your cabin air filter at Mountain Chevrolet.
  • Install winter tires: Up here in the mountains of Colorado, winter tires are crucial to ensuring your safety behind the wheel. Purchase your winter tires here at Mountain Chevrolet—and we can install them for you, too.
  • Test your lights, brakes, and battery: Make sure these crucial vehicle components are in working order. If you bring your vehicle in for maintenance, we can check these things for you.

For all your service needs this year, make sure you plan a trip to Mountain Chevrolet.

Robert Downey Jr. Gives Chris Evans a Captain America-Themed Camaro

Chevy Camaro - Similar to Captain America-themed Camaro given to Chris Evans by Robert Downey, Jr.

What’s the best way to tell a friend you enjoyed working with them on a project? A thank-you card? A specially designed 1967 Chevrolet Camaro? If you are Robert Downey Jr. and you’ve just wrapped up filming Captain America: Civil War with Chris Evans, you’d go with the latter.

That’s right—after finishing the filming of Civil War, Downey Jr. commissioned a special Captain America-themed Camaro to give to his costar during the filming of Avengers: Infinity War. The 1967 Camaro was recently featured on an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.

SpeedKore Performance Group took care of the job for Downey Jr. Instead of making the Camaro a glaringly obvious red, white, and blue, SpeedKore instead opted for a more subtle grey-green paint job, called “Melted Army Man Green.” Inside, the Camaro boasts a touchscreen, a Captain America shield steering wheel, and a leather interior that mirrors the leather jacket that Evans wore as Captain American in the franchise’s first film.

Reportedly, Downey Jr. was so pleased with SpeedKore’s work on the Camaro that he has commissioned two more vehicles to be redesigned by the group. No word yet on what those vehicles are, but other Avengers actors are likely waiting with anticipation, hoping Downey Jr. chose them.

If you are in the market for a regular Chevy Camaro, consider shopping at Mountain Chevrolet.

GM Sedans Aren’t Going Anywhere

2019 Chevy Cruze Sedan

In recent months, we have learned that several major automakers, including domestic automakers like Ford and Fiat Chrysler, are planning to abandon the passenger car segment entirely, in favor of SUVs and trucks. General Motors, however, has no plan to leave this segment. While the segment is decreasing in popularity, there is still a wide range of buyers who are interested in GM sedans.

It’s a pretty big opportunity for us,’ remarked Steve Majoros, Chevrolet’s marketing director. “If other competitors are leaving, we’re very happy to pick up that business, and we’ll certainly do that.

In fact, not only will GM continue its sedan lineup, it will also be working to enhance it. Chevrolet will reportedly be updating its Cruze, Spark, and Malibu offerings over the next few years. Sure, GM brands will also focus on SUVs and trucks, but that focus won’t take away from what the brand can do for sedan drivers.

If you are in the market for a sedan, come take a look at our lineup here at Mountain Chevrolet.

Chevy Traverse and Malibu Earn Top Family Vehicle Recognition

Chevy Traverse and Malibu Earn Top Family Vehicle Recognition

Earlier this summer, both the Chevy Traverse and Chevy Malibu earned “top family vehicle” recognition from Parents magazine and Edmunds.com when the two partnered to announce the “10 Best Family Cars of 2018.” Judges from Parents magazine and Edmunds reviewed over 300 vehicles and whittled them down to just 10, meaning Chevy owns 20% of the total prize. Specifically, judges were looking at qualities like mileage, comfort, performance, and affordability.

Specifically, the 2018 Chevy Traverse is great for larger families or drivers with an active lifestyle here in the Rockies. That’s because it offers up to 98.2 cubic feet of cargo space and can seat up to eight occupants. Legroom for second- and third-row passengers is more spacious than ever before in the Traverse, and fuel economy has also been improved to 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Chevy Malibu, though not as popular up here in the mountains, is great for single drivers or drivers with small families. It took home the win in the sedan category due to its roomy rear seats, the awesome Bose® sound system upgrade, and available Teen Driver technology, as well as a long list of other safety features that are more advanced than those of the competition.

You can explore the Traverse, Malibu, and other Chevrolet vehicles when you visit Mountain Chevrolet.

The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer: A Throwback with a New Purpose

The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is ready to rock the industry.

Chevrolet has been hinting at the return of the Blazer nameplate for a while, and the American carmaker recently announced that the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is ready to rock the industry.

Each Blazer model will have one of two engine options under the hood, both of which come paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The first is the standard 25-liter inline four-cylinder engine, which puts out 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. A 3.6-liter V6 engine is also available, producing 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This available engine will allow this revived crossover to tow up to 4,500 pounds.

Each Blazer will also come with standard Traction Select to provide you with better handling no matter the road conditions. An advanced twin-clutch all-wheel-drive technology will also be standard on the RS and Premier trim levels.

Though Chevrolet hasn’t released the exact trim levels that will be available, we do know that the more notable options include the sporty, blacked-out RS model and the luxurious Premier trim, which will add chrome accents throughout the crossover. Both of these trims will have a standard hands-free power liftgate and a Chevy-first cargo management system.

Standard features for the Blazer include the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi® capability. You will also find available features like wireless charging and Hitch Guidance and Hitch View technology.

The newest addition to Chevy’s lineup is expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2019. For more information, visit us at Mountain Chevrolet or give us a call. Our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Introducing the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is almost here!

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will arrive here at Mountain Chevrolet in just a few months. The completely redesigned pickup will be available starting this fall with a wide range of changes and enhancements.

For starters, Chevrolet promises the most functional bed of any full-size truck. The new Silverado bed will boast best-in-class cargo volume, 12 fixed tie-downs, a higher-strength steel floor, and some class-exclusive features, like the power up/down tailgate with key fob operation.

The 2019 Silverado will boast six engine and transmission choices, including the new 2.7-liter Turbo four-cylinder engine and the Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine. The four-cylinder replaces the outgoing 4.3-liter V6 and increases torque by 22 percent. The diesel engine, as well as the popular 6.2-liter engine, will be paired with a new Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission and start/stop technology.

Chevrolet will offer eight distinct Silverado models for 2019, which can be separated into three groups: High Value, High Volume, and High Feature. High-Value models include the Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss (a new model for 2019). High Volume Silverado trucks include the LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss; the RST and LT Trail Boss are also new for the upcoming model year. High Feature models include LTZ and High Country.

3 Best Chevy Vehicles for Road Trips

The Suburban is just one of our favorite Chevy vehicles for road trips.

Up here in the mountains, we are in a prime real estate for weekend road trip adventures, whether you are off to go camping, snowboarding, kayaking, or finding luxury in a hotel in a nearby city. Mountain Chevrolet offers a wide range of cars, trucks, and SUVs, many of which are great for such getaways, but the models below are our favorite Chevy vehicles for road trips:

Chevy Suburban

Chevy’s largest SUV is great for larger families hitting the road — or families or groups of friends with a lot of gear for their favorite mountain sports. In fact, the 2018 Suburban offers up to 121.7 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Chevy Silverado 1500

While the larger Chevy Silverado Heavy Duty models offer increased towing, the Silverado 1500 model is strong enough to take your boat, camper, or trailer out for a week of adventuring. With the 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 12,500 pounds. Plus, the Silverado is the most dependable, longest-lasting truck on the road, according to registration data from the last three decades.

Chevy Impala

Chevy’s largest sedan is plenty roomy for smaller families — with spare space to store luggage. More importantly, the Impala is incredibly efficient, offering up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.*

To learn more about any of these three models, or to test drive your favorite, stop by Mountain Chevrolet and speak to one of our sales representatives.

Go-To Guide for First-Time Truck Owners

From all of us at Mtn Chevy, guide for first-time truck owners

Chevrolet’s full lineup of vehicles is perfectly suited for Colorado roads. The efficient Volt and Bolt can take you long ranges without refueling. The small Malibu and Spark are perfect for navigating Denver’s city streets, and large SUVs and pickups like the Chevy Tahoe and Silverado tackle the harsh conditions and steep inclines of the Rocky Mountains without issue.

If you are new to pickup trucks and plan to get one for Colorado’s wintry roads, consult our guide for first-time truck owners.

  • Blind spots: When you adjust your mirrors in your new truck, you will notice that you have new blind spots you are not used to from driving smaller cars. Become familiar with where your blind spots are before entering the roadway.
  • Turning and reversing: You are in a much larger vehicle when you own a pickup, which can make turning and going in reverse more of a challenge. Practice in an empty parking lot, making sure to use your rearview camera and mirrors to your advantage. Before attempting to reverse when towing or hauling, watch some online tutorials or ask a veteran truck driver for tips.
  • Weight: Pickup trucks are much heavier than smaller cars — often by more than 2,000 pounds. This means your momentum when driving is much greater, so take it slow and give yourself plenty of time and room to brake.

If you’re on the hunt for a new pickup to add to your garage, stop by Mountain Chevrolet. We have a wide selection of new and used trucks to take you on your next adventure.
